Defining Identity - The Singapore Indian Muslims

This talk will focus on the interesting history and legacy of inter-racial relations primarily within the Chinese and Indian community at the vicinity of Chinatown and CBD area where there are still milestone and institutions, properties which carry good talking points. The narrative will help to dispel or demystify stereotyping while explaining the stories behind some of the misconceptions. The talk will also cover the contributions by this small community to nation building and the trades they have excelled in.

About the speaker: Mr Raja Mohamad has been in the finance sector most of his life. But his involvement and volunteerism at the Nagore Dargah Indian Muslim Centre (NDIMHC) stems from his introspective query into his identity as an individual - Indian, Muslim, and Singaporean. He volunteers so that Singaporeans and other visitors would have the right narrative about Indian / Muslims in the local context.
